ALL The Dresses Worn By Oscar Winners (Are Somewhat Similar)

Winning the award for Best Actress in a Leading Role takes hard work, talent, sacrifice — and apparently one of the gowns below. In honor of this weekend's big awards ceremony, MediaRun has rounded up every single dress worn by a leading-actress winner over the past 85 years. And, there are some surprising patterns (of behavior, not prints).
For starters, after taking a quick look at the overall scheme of things, we can see that neutrals rule. Up until the '70s, there were hardly any dresses that were not black, white, or silver. In addition, there was a period from the late '90s to the early aughts when only ladies who wore billowy-skirted silhouettes took home an Academy Award. And, finally, in the entire history of Hollywood's biggest night, only five women accepted their award in pants. (And, only one in a sheer, sequin, showgirl getup — hell yeah, Cher!)
While we've suggested before that Oscars red-carpet style can sometimes lean toward the safe side, frankly, this diagram — which, in retrospect, only has a handful of silhouettes represented over nearly a century's worth of events — provides the hard evidence. That's not to say it's not awfully pretty. See the full display below. (Jezebel)
