3-D glass is coming to a screen near you. Corning, the company behind Gorilla Glass, which protects over a billion devices worldwide, has announced that it's perfected a curved version of its popular glass and is expected to launch the product at the massive Las Vegas tech convention CES this coming week. The buzz so far has been deafening, so it's no surprise that Apple, which uses Gorilla Glass for its iPhones, has already shown interest.
According to The Wall Street Journal's Daisuke Wakabayashi, a new iPhone with a larger, curved display might very well be in Apple's foreseeable future. Smartphones like the Samsung Galaxy Round and the LG G Flex, already feature curved phone screens, but Apple has yet to launch a product that does the same. But, before we see this arched update, Apple's long-awaited iWatch is expected to feature the 3-D variant of the glass. If it ever comes out, that is.
In the meantime, Dutch designer Lewi Hussey has created some concept art of what the curved iPhone might look like. Besides just appearing, well, cooler, a curved screen would, among other things, stop that whole pesky cheek-accidentally-hitting-the-mute-button thing that's cost us, like, a thousand dates. So, that's a start. (Forbes)
