The film version of the hugely popular novel The Fault In Our Stars is coming out June 2014, and fans of the book are excited. But, some controversy has cropped up surrounding the movie's official poster.
Specifically, it's the tagline that reads below the film title — "One Sick Love Story" — that has some people raising their eyebrows. One person pointed out that it seems to make a joke of the story, which is about two teenagers with cancer who fall in love. But, we have to hand it to the book's author, John Green, for responding to that allegation as graciously as possible. He took to his Tumblr, saying that although he did not write the line, he does like it: "I found it dark and angry in the same way that Hazel is (at least at times) dark and angry in her humor...I like the tagline because it says, literally, the sick can also have love stories. Love and joy and romance are not just things reserved for the well."
Green also pointed out an undeniably positive aspect to the poster: It doesn't hide Shailene Woodley's character's disability. "A major Hollywood studio released a movie poster in which the female romantic lead has visible evidence of her disability, which is damn near unprecedented," he said. "And, I’m thrilled they put her face—and her cannula—on the poster." Amen to that! (BuzzFeed)
