Stuart Vevers, Who? Why Coach’s New Creative Director Will Soon Be A Household Name

Coach announced last night that they've found a replacement for Reed Krakoff, who is leaving at the end of his contract to pursue his eponymous line. And no — it's not Marc Jacobs or Nicolas Ghesquière, but a relatively unknown designer named Stuart Vevers. Though his name seems new, his legacy shouldn't be; Vevers was previously the creative director at Loewe and Mulberry, started out his career at Calvin Klein, and is responsible for some good design at Bottega Veneta, Givenchy, and Louis Vuitton as well. In 2006, he won the British Fashion Council's Accessory Designer of the Year award. So, he knows what he's doing and more.

Says Vevers, "Coach is an exceptional brand and company that I've long admired for its rich heritage. I am excited to drive Coach's next stage of transformation." With his expertise in luxury, old-world manufacturing techniques and simple, sensual design, Vevers may launch Coach into a whole new bracket. You don't have to look back long to see how drastically Coach has evolved, even in the past five years, launching Krakoff and his designs from suburban-mall chic to actual chic-chic. It shouldn't be hard to envision the brand ascending to the next level under Vevers' direction.
