Saint Laurent’s Soho Store Opens Today (And It’s As Luxe As We Hoped)

Saint Laurent's NYC flagship opens today in Soho, perfectly situated on reputable Greene Street. From the outside, passersby can gawk through the heavy glass doors at the too-soft-for-words leather jackets and the glossy wall of stilettos, his-and-her lace-ups, and booties. And, of course, the myriad bags that could stop hearts, not to mention traffic.
Sleek in design, with vintage furnishings, the 4,000-square-foot space was designed by creative director Hedi Slimane himself. And, if shoppers and curious browsers don't get lost in the expansive stock (the store now holds the permanent collection, as well as spring, pre-fall, and a special fall sneak-peek), perhaps they'll find themselves mesmerized in the entirely mirrored, VIP dressing room where their prospective purchases will reflect back at them from every direction.
Indeed, the store is a beacon for the iconic brand, which is at a critical turning point. Sure, Yves passed away five years ago, but the "Y line" bag and Cassandra clutch (named after the old logo) are important reminders that the "YSL" hasn't been dropped completely, it will just be used more selectively. It's a classic-meets-futuristic space, all white and marble and sexy, that holds everything from T-shirts, to wear-them-every-day leather pants, the "hour" bags (named for the amount of time it takes for them to be made) to an embellished floor-length cape. What else will be accounted for on Greene Street? Exclusive items like the $6,500 fully sequined, Daft-Punk blazer and the white Dalmatian-spotted men's coat that promises Saint Laurent is still everything.
