He's already the richest man in Europe, arguably one of the two or three most powerful people in fashion, and the one holding the umbrella under which Louis Vuitton, Dior, and dozens of other coveted luxury brands rest. Now, Bernard Arnault, CEO of Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton, will be dubbed a Knight Commander of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire — that is, Sir Bernard.
While the title will only be honorary (he is, y'know, French), it does mark another in an increasingly long line of knight and ladyhoods bestowed by the British Crown on fashion's leading lights (Dames Anna Wintour and Vivienne Westwood being recent examples), a trend that underlines the industry's increasing cultural and financial significance. All in all, a great day for Sir Bernard, well, almost. (Forbes)
