Lady Gaga’s Weight Gain Has Turned The Media Into A Bunch Of Mean Girls

The business of Lady Gaga's weight is not something we'd like to discuss. Her recent decision to smoke pot on stage in Amsterdam — where the drug is legal — is not really the issue, either. Instead, what is most important about the headlines that have been feverishly popping up about Mother Monster isn't the articles behind them: It's the stories themselves.
When Gaga appeared on stage looking a bit different than we are used to, the press took the most unflattering photos and ran with them, pairing them with dangerous, cruel headlines and the "F" word. While we weren't looking, they said, "Lady Gaga Became A Fatty!"; "Why Is She So Fat? Is It Drugs? Alcohol? Food?"; "She's So FAT." These weren't just sensational headlines. Instead, like the recent l'affair Kate Middleton, they felt different, filled with vitriol and rudeness. In fact, this isn't selling newspapers: This is bullying.

And noted news outlet ABC simply has a slideshow called: "Lady Gaga's Weight Gain."
Not only are these headlines dangerous, but they are mean, literally making fun of a woman for appearing to put on weight, and when these messages are broadcast, they become particularly malignant. As for the actual weight gain, Jezebel posted an excellent discussion unpacking the pointless weight debate and about Gaga's history with weight issues. Definitely worth a read.
