We've just caught word that fashion writer, icon, and personality Anna Piaggi has died early this morning. She was 81 years old.
According to Fashionista, word first broke when close friend Stefano Gabbana tweeted: “RIP Anna Piaggi… :((((( ciao grande Anna!!!" Serving as journalist to Ariadne, La Repubblica, Vogue, and Vanity, Piaggi pioneered the merging of text and images to describe and celebrate fashion. To anyone who's seen her before — whether in person or in photo — was to instantly know her forever; her melange of surrealism, high glamour, and punk was inimitable, though people always tried.
