Warrior Nun

Renewed for season 2

Netflix premiere date: TBA

If you want to see something that will brighten your day, watch the video of the Warrior Nun cast finding out their show is coming back for a second season. As the Instagram video proves, even dogs were excited by the news.

Warrior Nun debuted over July 4th weekend and was promptly renewed in August 2020. While the plot of Warrior Nun season 2 is still under wraps, viewers know the season 1 finale left the titular Warrior Nun — Alba Baptista's Ava — on the edge a huge demonic battle.

“For an eventual season 2, I heard a little bit of the story and it’s definitely going to amp up the game,” Baptista teased during a July conversation with Refinery29. “Because, you know, Ava still hasn’t totally reached her full potential. So there’s still a lot to explore there.”

Unsolved Mysteries

Renewed for volume 2

Netflix premiere date: Monday, October 19, 2020

Netflix figured out the prime way to announce another season of Unsolved Mysteries is ahead: creating a mystery of its own. In August 2020, the @Netflix account tweeted out a mysterious photo of the woods, writing, “Let's see how much of a sleuth @Unsolved Mysteries Volume 1 made you…”

Fans quickly zoomed into the photo, finding to find the words “New mysteries: October 19” hidden in plain sight. It is still unclear which unresolved mysteries the new volume of Unsolved will share with viewers. But, we all know there will be tons of Reddit sleuthing to be found by October 20.

Outer Banks

Renewed for season 2

Netflix premiere date: TBA

See you in the Bahamas, Pogues. That is the unifying message from the Outer Banks team in the wake of the freshman series' long-awaited season 2 renewal.

The Outer Banks Instagram account promised as much with its announcement of Outer Banks season 2, which was confirmed in July 2020. The humid YA series premiered just over three months earlier in April 2020. Star Madelyn Cline also gave a shoutout to the Pogues' end-of-season 1 destination in the cast's season 2 celebration video, which was shared on Twitter.

It is confirmed the entire core cast of Outer Banks will return for season 2, which will follow hero John B. (Chase Stokes), as he and his friends head to the Bahamas to steal back millions of dollars' worth of gold from their nemesis. The only problem is, John B.'s archenemy is Ward Cameron (Charles Esten), his girlfriend's dad.

Sweet Magnolias

Renewed for season 2

Netflix premiere date: TBA

Netflix is set to get a little sweeter. The streamer renewed down-South romance drama Sweet Magnolias for a second season in July 2020, two months after its May 2020 series debut. The series is based on a series of novels from prolific best-selling author Sherryl Woods.

Sweet's trio heroines — Joanna Garcia Swisher, Brooke Elliott and Heather Headley — will all return.

Never Have I Ever

Renewed for season 2

Netflix premiere date: TBA

Maitreyi Ramakrishnan got bangs, everyone! Yet, that is not the most exciting news in the Never Have I Ever orbit, as the series' season 2 announcement video jokes. Instead the big news is just that: Mindy Kaling and Lang Fisher's beloved Netflix comedy is coming back for a second season.

Never's season 2 finale set up a handful of exciting new threads to explore in the new episodes, including a love triangle between Ramakrishnan's heroine Devi, her former archnemesis Ben (Jaren Lewison), and their high school's dreamiest athlete, Paxton (Darren Barnet). However, the entire Never cast is quick to point out there's so much more to Devi's world for season 2 than finding a boyfriend.

Valeria

Renewed for season 2

Netflix premiere date: TBA

Spanish dramedy Valeria premiered in May 2020, directly in the midst of the international COVID-19 pandemic. The series — about a professionally and romantically unfulfilled married writer named, of course, Valeria (Diana Gómez) — offered up a glimpse at a very Sex and the City lifestyle as single viewers likely stopped having casual sex and romping around their respective cities. So, it was a much needed escape.

Valeria will continue serving as a vacation-in-a-TV-show for a second season. In June 2020, Netflix confirmed in an Instagram post that Valeria has been renewed for another batch of episodes. Valeria's star, Diana Gómez, also happily announced the season 2 news, saying she was as “happy as a partridge,” which rhymes in Spanish.

Gentefied

Renewed for season 2

Netflix premiere date: TBA

Gentefied premiered in February 2020, kicking off a newfound investment from Netflix in Latinx storytelling. Just a few weeks prior, the streaming service started @contodo, its Latinx-focused Instagram outlet. In the days following Getnefied’s debut, Netflix turned the comedy’s fictional Brown Love podcast into a real one hosted by Orange Is the New Black star Dascha Polanco.

In the wake of One Day at a Time’s cancellation, it was easy to feel worried Gentefied — which is also about a multi-generation Lantinx family in Los Angeles — would quickly get the axe. Mercifully, it didn’t. By May 2020, the comedy was renewed for its second season, which will consist of eight episodes.

Elite

Renewed for season 4

Netflix premiere date: TBA

First the good news: Elite, Netflix’s sexy, murder-y teen mystery series, will return for a fourth season. Now, the bad news: a handful of beloved cast members will not appear in the new episodes. In May 2020, Elite’s official Instagram account confirmed Danna Paola, Mina El Hammani, Ester Expósito, Jorge López, and Álvaro Rico would not return to the series. While upsetting, this news mostly made sense, as Paola, Hammani, Expósito, and Rico’s characters all received solid resolutions in the season 3 finale, whether that be through big moves abroad or death. The loss of López's Valerio will likely be the most noticeable.

However, the remaining cornerstone performers of Elite — like Itzan Escamilla, Miguel Bernardeau, and Omar Ayuso — have all confirmed they will return to the halls of Las Encinas, the pricey, doomed school at the heart of the YA soap.

Queen Sono

Renewed for season 2

Netflix premiere date: TBA

In February 2020, Queen Sono made Netflix history of the streamer’s first-ever series made on the continent of Africa. The drama, starring Pearl Thusi, took us inside the world of the titular Queen Sono a spy still grieving the assassination of her revolutionary mother Safiya Sono (Lady Skollie) years earlier. The first season of Sono revealed the twists of Safiya’s death while also throwing Queen into a present day international crisis.

Queen Sono season 2 — which was announced in April — will continue that story, following Queen on a newfound road to revenge. Production for new episodes of Sono was originally expected to begin late in 2020, although it is unclear if those plans will be delayed in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic.

You

Renewed for season 3

Netflix premiere date: TBA

Back in 2018, You made the jump from its initial home of Lifetime to Netflix. Two years later, the stalker thriller continues to flourish. It was renewed for a third season in January 2020, mere weeks after You’s season 2 debut in December 2019. Little was initially known about You's next season other than the fact Penn Badgley would reprise his role as serial killer Joe Goldberg and Victoria Pedretti would return as Joe’s murderous life partner Love Quinn

In the ensuing months, however, creator/showrunner Sera Gamble has dropped some You gems on Instagram, including the promise of a “Chekov’s dildo” come season 3.

Raising Dion

Renewed for season 2

Netflix premiere date: TBA

Netflix is holding onto Michael B. Jordan. In October 2019, Netflix released Raising Dion, a sci-fi drama about an adorable child named Dion Warren (Ja' Siah Young). At the beginning of the series, Dion realizes he has superpowers following the disappearance of his father Mark (executive producer Jordan). While the mystery of Mark’s assumed death is an anchor for Dion season 1, it’s Dion’s mother Nicole (Alisha Wainwright) who leads the series.

We can expect to learn more about the Warrens, as Netflix announced Dion’s renewal in January 2020. Raising Dion season 2 will include eight one-hour episodes. While Netflix initially wanted production for Dion’s new chapters to begin in 2020, it is unclear how the coronavirus shutdown of Hollywood will influence that objective.

Love Is Blind

Renewed for seasons 2 &

Netflix premiere date: 2021

Rest assured, you’re going to be getting a lot more Love Is Blind. In March 2020, Netflix confirmed the breakout reality series would return for seasons 2 and 3 come 2021 (again, it is unclear if that production plan has changed due to the COVID-19 pandemic). At the time of Love Is Blind’s renewal, Netflix said casting was already underway in Chicago — as opposed to season 1’s home base of Atlanta — for the next season of the dating show, where singles are encouraged to get engaged without ever seeing each other.

The location of Love Is Blind season 3 remains a mystery.

The Circle

Renewed for seasons 2 & 3

Netflix premiere date: 2021

Love Is Blind won’t be the only socially distant reality show come 2021. The Circle — about a group of strangers competing for social clout among people they’ve never seen — has also been renewed for two more seasons. Host Michelle Buteau will return for The Circle seasons 2 and 3.
