The Makeup Brands L.A. Girls Can't Shut Up About

Katy Perry had it right: California girls are unforgettable. In fact, here in New York we're low-key envious of their effortlessly air-dried hair and glowing complexions. (Don't let anyone tell you that mild, sunny weather isn't good for the soul and appearance.) It's easy to feel left out when you're not living in 365 days of sunshine, so we found the next best thing.
As you may know, there are tons of new makeup brands and stores popping up in the Golden State, but with so much on the horizon it's hard to keep track of the ones that locals actually love — so we turned to the experts. We tapped three top makeup artists from L.A. for the products they're currently using on their clients.
Get your shopping carts ready: The following brands will give you that easy L.A. glow you're looking for with no vacation required. From glitter paste for the ultimate festival look to a magical face serum that will — dare we say — inspire you to stow your foundation, these beauty brands are artist-approved.
Ahead, check out nine makeup brands that California girls can't get enough of.

"This whole line has a magical, occult aesthetic, but the colors are all super flattering and versatile," Wickes says. "L.A. girls are minimalists at heart who love a good multitasking product — and some sexy packaging, too!"

Wanna blend in on your next L.A. hike? The brand tells R29 that this rusty shade was pulled from the shell of a cicada insect. (We're joking, but still...)

Chelsea Wolfe x Rituel de Fille Exuviae Ash and Ember Eye Soot, $38, available at Rituel de Fille.

This black blush isn't just meant for cheeks — you can also tap it onto your lids for a smoky eye or layer it with a brighter blush for a moodier finish.

The Pro: Makeup Artist Kira Nasrat

Nasrat swears by this multipurpose balm from Honest Beauty. "I use this on my lips, as an eye gloss, and on the high points of my cheeks as a highlighter to give the skin a dewy effect," she says. "Lots of artists carry this in their kit — including myself!"

The two matte contouring creams blend exceptionally well and can be used alone or mixed for a custom hue (which makes it great for a range of skin tones). The highlighter has a very subtle shimmer, which makes skin look dewy — not sparkly.

Honest Beauty Contour + Highlight Kit, $34, available at Honest Beauty.

"Leland Francis face oil is a new product I just added to my kit," Nasrat says. "So far, lots of clients are loving it because it feels great on the skin. Wear it alone at night or under sunscreen during the day."

Leland Francis Luxe Face Oil, $98, available at Leland Francis.

According to Nasrat, Kosås lipsticks are everywhere in L.A. Not only do these lipsticks provide long lasting hydration, but they're also excellent to use on the cheeks as a makeshift cream blush. Plus, they come in tons of colors.

Nasrat tells us the key to looking good in any lipstick is simple preparation. She swears by the Sara Happ scrub to lightly exfoliate the lips, which helps eliminate dry skin flakes while also providing plumpness and hydration.
