Vintage San Francisco As You’ve Never Seen It Before

When we look at all the new sky-high condos and offices now sweeping virtually every San Francisco block, well, we get a little sad. It may be inevitable, but it is also pretty surreal to witness the city change both culturally and architecturally right before our eyes. Luckily, there are organizations like the Western Neighborhood Project that keep the vitality of old-school S.F. alive.
The project — which highlights videos, pictures, and other relics from the city's "outside lands" area's past (Inner Richmond, Outer Sunset, Inner Sunset, etc.) — features about 1,182 new additions of vintage photos to fawn over. The bulk of the images come from a collector who handed them over for the organization to helm, and now Western Neighborhood Project is putting them on its site, one installment at a time — making nostalgic San Franciscans very happy along the way.
The first phase is now live and includes captivating aerial images of Glen Park, Ocean Beach, and locals taking some leisure time in the park. Click through to enjoy these special images and be sure to keep checking Western Neighborhood Project for more trips down memory lane.
