The Bad, The Bold, And The Beautiful: 2010 Met Ball Fashion

We consider the Met Ball to be one of the most glamorous costume parties of the year. After all, it comes complete with a theme (this year, it's "American Woman: Fashioning a National Identity"), a star-studded list, and some of the most adept costumers...ahem, designers as your date. We expected Old Hollywood glamor, classic Americana sportswear, and maybe even a denim tuxedo or two to walk the red carpet—but overall, we felt like the looks ranged from boring to blah. However, we've rounded up those certain few who dared to take some fashion risks, and bring you our list of the bad, the bold, and the beautiful—the worst, most ballsy, and the best dressed of the eve.

The Bold
Zoe Kravitz—Pulling off Alexander Wang tent pants, a white tank, and wispy bangs, Zoe Kravitz takes the low-key route for the Met Ball and ends up with a high-impact look.
Chanel Iman—If you've ever doubted the power of the playsuit, we ask you to take Chanel Iman's Michael Kors onesie into consideration. With a dipping neckline, and worn with a strong belt and David Yurman jewelry, this gold jumpsuit is one of our favorite looks from the evening.
Alexa Chung—Alexa Chung chose these 3.1 Phillip Lim trousers and a dark red lip that effectively channels American superwomen Diane Keaton and Louise Brooks.
M.I.A.—Alex Wang's other she-companion, M.I.A., rocked it in a gold mesh dress. We're sure it weighed a gazillion pounds, but with her orange lipstick, amazing rings, and catsuit worn underneath, this ballsy look was everything we hoped to see at the Met Ball.
The Beautiful
Zoe Saldana—The one-shouldered Calvin Klein might not be a blockbuster, but Zoe looks positively statuesque.
Kate Bosworth—Old Hollywood hair is always a safe bet, especially when paired with a filmy Valentino number with a stunning coral motif.
Rosie Huntington—Rosie's brown belt could have ended up looking hokey, but instead provides just the right amount of spunk in an otherwise Plain-Jane (but beautiful) Burberry gown.
Emma WatsonHellooo Hermione! The teen starlet, also in Burberry, proves that when you've got heaps of class, you can pull off a mega-slit and still look put together.
The Bad
Katy Perry—A light-up LED dress? Fun in theory, but this frothy bedroom gown just ends up looking try-too-hard.
Chloë Sevigny—Our heart breaks to stick Chloë on this list since we're usually big fans of her big looks, but this Proenza Schouler dress and bra make her look like a pregnant 10-year-old streetwalker. (Too harsh?)
Tina Fey—This is what happens when you stick a petite woman in a jumpsuit built for a six-foot-tall-Amazonian. It's never a good idea when you can probably fit another attendee in the crotch of your outfit.
January Jones—The gloves. The hair poof. The Avenger makeup. January Jones looks as if she's auditioning for a new role as a Venetian Superhero.
