It should come as no surprise that the median size for women has risen significantly in the past decade or two, with the average dress size growing from a 12 to a 14 and cup sizes growing from a 34B to a 36C. WWD maintains that the plus-size intimates industry owes their recent successes to Oprah Winfrey (what isn't she responsible for?), who encourages women to really get their undergarments fitted properly, despite their size. For those unfamiliar, the Oprah Effect is a super-magical marketing correlation, with sales of Oprah-approved products selling out everywhere. We still blame Oprah for the supra-popularity of not-so-amazing things like Uggs, Crocs, and Apple-Bottom Jeans (she shares partial blame with Flo Rida, too)... but frilly, beautiful lingerie for ladies of all shapes is something we can really rally behind.
