Sunflowers sure are blooming in unexpected places this season. Need proof? Just look to the runways: The sweet ’90s floral print made appearances at Anna Sui, Delpozo, and Jena.Theo — heck, even Kendall and Kylie Jenner's PacSun line showcases the sunny bloom. But, take a stroll down the beauty aisle and you'll notice sunflowers are popping up in your favorite lotions and potions, too.
Turns out, these golden blossoms are great for skin and hair — the oil pressed from their seeds is a natural emollient loaded with beauty benefits. “Sunflower seeds are rich in antioxidants,” says Dr. Jeannette Graf, dermatologist and assistant clinical professor of dermatology at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York. “They’re also one of the only plant sources of vitamin D3, which is anti-inflammatory and photo-protective.” (No, that doesn’t mean you can skip sunscreen.)
