Sometimes Beauty Is As Simple As Black & White

One of our favorite things about Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics — aside from its life-changingly vibrant lip colors — is the way the brand brings makeup-artist favorites to nonprofessional makeup lovers. Continuing in that spirit, the company's just rereleased the Tarred + Feathered Lip Balm Duo, a cult classic that originally debuted in 2004. Make no mistake, though — this isn't your average lip-balm palette. It contains just two colors: black and white. Sounds a little daunting? It's actually the best thing to happen to your lip game.
The colors are sheer, so rather than creating an instant statement, each one can be built to accomplish very specific effects. On bare lips, the black makes one's natural lip color deeper and darker; likewise, the white lightens and brightens. And, since they work with your natural lip color, the results are subtle.

But, what we're most excited about is that this can be used to adjust the color of any lipstick. Want to deepen that classic red? Throw a layer of black over it. Want to make your pastel pop? Put the white on before your lipstick, and it'll create the perfect canvas. It's everything we've ever wanted to do to basically all of our lipsticks in one little circle.
As if the color possibilities weren't enticing enough, the vegan formula is packed with oils (hemp seed, pomegranate, and avocado) for super-hydrating action and color correcting. Worth noting: The fact that it's not called a BB lip balm makes us like it even more.
Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics Tarred & Feathered Color Correcting Lip Balm Duo, $18, available at Sephora.
