How awful is that SOL feeling of finding a piece of
furniture you love and having no idea who the heck makes it or how much it
costs? Or, on the other hand, glancing at the price tag and nearly fainting. Whether
window-shopping in the design district or rummaging through bins at the Alameda
Flea Market, you're constantly set up for disappointment. NousDecor, the S.F.-based site for community-curated decor inspiration and shopping, has released an app
that is about to overhaul that sad process.
NousDecor allows you to snap a
photo of any design element and enter a little info about it; the app then runs a
search, populating tons of results for similar items at all different of price
points — across more than 100 sites. This really comes in handy if you’re looking to replicate a luxury look on a
budget, or aren’t completely committed to that investment piece just yet.
"NousDecor
mimics the
way people decorate their homes in real life," chief designer Mark Cutler told us. "For
example, if you were redoing your bedroom, you might find photos of rooms you
like and try to find pieces to re-create that look, but at your own budget and
with your own twist." The best part? You can buy the pieces right from your phone,
too. Design fiends, get to downloading. Whether you're in the throes of redecorating or you simply happen to stumble upon a piece that inspires you, you'll want to make sure you have this game-changing app at the ready.
