Don't get us wrong: We love the cherry blossoms. The frothy pink blooms bring joy to our hearts and make our city look like something out of a fairy tale — and we dig it. But, when most perfumers try to capture the essence of our town in a scent, they OD on the pink stuff and end up with a cloying, too-girly concoction that's better left in the (albeit pretty) bottle. Thankfully, that's not the case with Nomaterra's line of city-inspired scents.
The New York-based artisan perfumer has created scents that evoke D.C., Miami, and East Hampton, based on cofounder Agnieszka Burnett's childhood travels in the U.S. — and while she mentions cherry blossoms as an inspiration for her D.C. formulation, the scent is a decidedly musky, spicy gourmand, with notes of citrus, bay leaf, black pepper, and tobacco. A base of musk and vanilla keeps it from being too acidic, and makes it perfect for everyday wear. Even better? You can opt to apply the scent via a disposable wipe, which means it's easy to apply discreetly, without blasting your coworkers or fellow Metro riders with overspray — although we can't imagine they'd mind, in this case.
