We're going to put it to you plainly — plenty of gimmicky-sounding ingredients are just as dodgy as they seem. But, every once in a while, something comes along that not only sounds incredible (and slightly ridiculous), but actually works. Case-in-point: rose sweat, as part of Jurlique's limited-edition Precious Rose Hand Cream.
All right, so the ingredient isn't actually called rose sweat. It's rose water extract — but, sweat comes pretty close to describing it. Here's the gist: When the folks over at Jurlique dehumidify roses to create toner — a standard process that involves adding the dried petals to purified water — the petals let off condensation. (Or, as we like to call it, sweat.) Instead of having that condensation go to waste, which is what usually happens, this year they figured out a way to harvest it. The scented water is now put into their hand cream, along with rose extract, aloe, and macadamia, safflower, and almond oils. The result is a sumptuous moisturizer that replenishes and balances your skin — just like the brand's cult-favorite toner does.
If you're a fan of a floral, rosy scent, this cream is for you — we'll be honest, it's particularly pungent. The rich cream soothed our seriously chapped hands and dry cuticles, without leaving a greasy residue. And, while we're on the subject, rose is actually a great ingredient to keep on rotation this summer. If you find yourself with a sunburn (tisk, tisk), smooth this stuff on — rosewater is a natural astringent that will help cool and heal your lobster skin. There's also the added bonus of being able to tell people you just covered yourself in rose sweat. Has anything in the world ever sounded so indulgent?
