Golden Globes weekend is finally upon us, which means we can stop watching the hilarious promos over and over, and get ready to start cracking up at Tina and Amy doin' their thing, live. Of course, every awesome televised event needs an equally awesome viewing party — and we're not talking a couple bags of Doritos and a 12-pack of PBR. No, the Golden Globes are one of the most glamourous (and drunken!) awards shows, so you need to throw a soiree that's equally glamorous (and drunk!).
To help, we've enlisted Bronson van Wyck, NYC party planner to the stars, and expert on all things upscale. He's dishing out his best tips for creating a night to remember (or not — that depends on how much bubbly you down), including what to serve, what to imbibe, and even lighting schemes. 1. "Have your guests arrive to a red carpet delineating the path to your front door. To mimic the feel of flashing paparazzi bulbs, line the path with lanterns and candles, or even blinking white lights that add shimmer and shine to the winter night. You could even spray paint gold stars onto the red carpet and write your guest’s names onto them for a personal Hollywood walk of fame."
2. "Have a bubble machine fill your entry with the magical circular lightness — Champagne — that your guests will soon be sipping in their flutes."
3. "Try incorporating a gold Mylar rain curtain for guests to walk through as they enter, or to use as a press wall in your entry foyer. A treasure chest filled with golden props such as wigs, sunglasses, and costume jewelry will help guests get further into the mood."
4. "Drink the official champagne of the Golden Globes, just like the nominees. Place a bottle of Moët & Chandon Champagne on your dinner table and serve guests in golden goblets."
5. "Keep guests engaged and entertained during commercial breaks by playing a variety of modern parlor games that range from high to low-brow. Some ideas include: Bobbing for the Golden Apple, Nominee Bingo, and Celebrities (sometimes called Lunchbox)."
