The quest for the funniest movies of all time is a lengthy one. Every year, there are dozens of comedies released, each embracing a nuance of the hilarious. There are stoner comedies, family comedies, dark comedies, animated comedies, campy comedies, indie comedies, slapstick comedies, chick flick comedies. The list goes on and on.
Whatever your mood, a good comedy can lift your spirits and leave you in a pool of your own tears from laughter. After reviewing the 101 Funniest Screenplays (as chosen by the Writers Guild of America), asking my peers, and tapping into my own reserve of hysterical hits, we've crafted a list of the movies that are guaranteed to make you laugh every single time.
However, sometimes you just don't have time for a two-hour laughing sesh. But, no worries — we took care of that, too. To best utilize your time, we went ahead and pulled out the funniest scenes of each film and included them here for a quick comedy fix.
Let's get to laughin'.

Airplane (1980)

According to urban legend, Airplane has more laughs per minute than any other movie. In the slapdash comedy, a former airforce pilot rendered terrified of flying is forced to take over the airplane after the pilot gets sick. The film's known for its sight gags, quotable lines, and droll, deadpan acting.

Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy (2004)

The most quotable movie of the new millennium, this classic about a team of sexist, old-school newscasters whose careers are upturned by the newcomer Veronica Corningstone is a movie we can watch over and over and over again.

What We Do In the Shadows (2014)

Enter into the lair of four awkward vampires who share a flat in Auckland, New Zealand. This gut-busting mockumentary tracks their journey adjusting to the modern world. Comedy doesn't get much more imaginative than this.

Shaun of the Dead (2004)
The ultimate installation in the comedy-horror genre, this movie about a man trapped in London during the zombie apocalypse will definitely elicit more laughs than shrieks. At 29, Shaun hasn’t much to show for his life, aside from a very long bar tab. His girlfriend, Liz, is flip-flopping whether to leave him, and there’s practically an indent on the couch from where he sits. All he has is his trusty roommate. And with his trusty roommate by his side, zombies don’t stand a chance. The film’s director, Edgar Wright, uses comedy in a distinct and creative way. After this film, you’ll be hungry for more Edgar Wright, like a zombie is hungry for brains.

Not Another Teen Movie (2001)
One of the smartest of all the rom-com spoofs out there. Added bonus is the presence of a young Chris Evans.

Zoolander (2001)
ORANGE! MOCHA! FRAPPUCCINO! Also, bonus points if you recognized that Minkus was played by True Blood's Alexander Skarsgård.

The Hangover (2009)
This movie, regardless of how bad the sequels got, is one of the funniest things to come out of the early 2000s. In addition to Zach Galifianakis' comedic gold (who can forget that baby scene?), this pre-Vegas pep talk gave us a few of the most quotable lines of the film.

Clueless (1995)
Cher (Alicia Silverstone) delivers one of the most iconic and hilarious movie speeches ever. Her sincerity in likening a political event to a bougie dinner party is peak '90s comedy.
9 of 11
Superstar (1999)
Mary Katherine Gallagher (Molly Shannon) Evian (Elaine Hendrix) deserve their own spin-off after this hilarious slapstick scene. Those writers over at SNL are evil geniuses for dreaming this up.

Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan (2006)
"This suit is black... not," is guaranteed to make at least one person crack a smile when entering a room. The unoriginal joke does a grave disservice to actual comedic timing, but that's what makes it so damn funny.
