Fashion Week’s Silver Lining: Newcomers on the Scene

fashion-week-2009-feb-newcomers
We know you're upset that Alex Wang isn't having his usual hot, sweaty, drunken-fun-of-a-mess Fashion Week fête, and that you won't be seeing Marc Jacobs dancing to M.I.A's beats at his usual after party. But perk up: It's not all bad news on the fashion week front, thanks to certain brave souls who are, shockingly, actually showing for the first time rather than pulling out. R29 faves Corpus and Bodkin, Nicholas K, Aussie design duo Life with Bird, and Spanish designer David Delfin will all be presenting their collections in New York. Meanwhile, Korean designer Bum Suk Choi, who's already shown 10 collections for his label General Idea and has a racecar uniform collab with Puma under his belt, is finally coming stateside. Also new on the scene: FIT grad and eco-conscious designer Allison Parris will be debuting her collection this fashion week, so be on the lookout.
As for all you anglophiles, we suggest booking your plane ticket to London right now, because sisters Sienna and Savannah Miller will be taking their lovechild, Twenty8Twelve, to the catwalks for the first time (we can already see Keira sitting front row). And in a continuing move upward for John Varvatos, who just recently opened up his flagship in the old CBGB space, the designer is moving his show to Milan, which could mean more press and bigger hype. And with Fashion Week merely weeks away, we wonder what other surprises the designers are planning. Will Debbie Harry take the stage at Marc Jacobs, given all the recent Sprouse mania? Will Prada throw another big bash in their SoHo flagship? See, we told you the future isn't as bleak as it seems.
