Christophe Decarnin Announces Split From Balmain, Will Name Successor Soon

Due to creative differences with Balmain's CEO Alain Hivelin, Christophe Decarnin will announce his leave from the glitzy/grunge brand. The designer's hospitalization during his fall '11 show left many wondering about his mental state. Decarnin's reign at Balmain started in 2005 and his spangled mini dresses, ripped tees, and luxe denim helped propogate "Balmania" when you couldn't walk down the street without seeing someone in cargo pants, super-high heels, and a moth-eaten shirt. Balmain will officially announce the separation later today, along with the designer who will succeed Decarnin. (WWD)
