5 Retro-Looking Beauty Products You Won't Find Just Anywhere

My latest beauty-shopping trip was inspired by a fragrance executive who told me that her favorite place to go for new goodies is a little drugstore on the Upper East Side in Manhattan. It made me curious, so I decided to go on a little field trip. The place, Carnegie Hill HBA, was nothing like I imagined.
I was expecting something a little, um, more chic. But, what the store lacked in ambiance, it made up for in quirkiness. As I strolled through the narrow aisles, I noticed all these random brands I’ve never seen before. The things I was drawn to the most had interesting vintage-y packaging — some of it is kind of funny. Here’s a breakdown of my haul:

Hi & Dri Powder Fresh Deodorant
Just in case it's not pink enough for you on the outside, the solid on the inside is rose-colored, too.
Pssssst! Instant Dry Shampoo
This little gem is a cult favorite among hairstylists. The design reminds me of those swirly poles outside of old-school barber shops.
Murray’s Superior Hair Dressing Pomade
You gotta love the happy couple, smiling on the lid with their matching Afros.
Nutrine Garlic Shampoo
Fortunately, this has a mild clean scent that doesn’t smell garlicky at all.
Johnson’s Foot Soap
Since it boldly claims to “soak away foot misery,” I used it after a day stomping around on NYC's cobblestones in high heels.
Clearly, I’m a sucker for kitsch. What do you think of my new loot? Are you into shopping at indie beauty supply stores or are you more of a department-store kind of girl?
