Lady Gaga and composer Diane Warren worked together to create "Till It Happens to You," a heartbreaking song from the perspective of a sexual assault survivor. The song originally served as the theme for The Hunting Ground, a documentary about campus rape released earlier this year. Today, The Hollywood Reporter revealed that the song will also be used in a PSA directed by Catherine Hardwicke "to raise awareness of campus sexual assault." "The video PSA, shot in black and white, casts an emotional spotlight on young women in vulnerable situations that college students will readily recognize," THR continued. The song's lyrics, which are raw and emotional, express how it feels to survive sexual assault. "Till it happens to you, you don't know how it feels / Till It happens to you, you won't know, it won't be real," Gaga sings, her voice cracking. The topic is an extremely personal one for the singer. During an interview with Howard Stern in December 2014, she opened up about being raped at the age of 19 by a record producer. Per THR, the PSA will emerge in the coming weeks when college students head back to school. You can listen to "Till It Happens to You" now on BuzzFeed. (The Hollywood Reporter)
