For $27,500 a month, Marilyn Monroe’s Upper East Side “sanctuary,” where the legendary actress shacked up when she visited the Big Apple, can be your Manhattan retreat, too. The four-bedroom, three-and-a-half-bathroom townhouse, once owned by famed fashion photographer Milton Greene (who was both friends with Monroe and assisted in establishing Marilyn Monroe Productions, which created cult classics like Some Like It Hot), has some serious old-Hollywood essence; it's no surprise it served as the iconic film star's East Coast home-away-from home.
The four-story dwelling, which was built in 1899, is a little bit of an Old New York real-estate dream: It boasts five fireplaces, high ceilings, spacious rooms, outdoor spaces, and one massive grand staircase. Plus, the detailing throughout is intricately rendered; from a checkered kitchen floor to decorative wallpapers, the interior practically screams Chateau Marmont (where Monroe was spotted regularly). And even though it’s not on Sunset Boulevard, this space does act as somewhat of a time machine (hot tub included — really).
