Celebrities Are Distancing Themselves From Bill Cosby’s Biography

As evidence continues to mount against him, Bill Cosby is losing support from both the comedy and publishing industries. The Hollywood Reporter has noted that comics like David Letterman and Jerry Seinfeld have asked that their comments praising Cosby, be removed from Mark Whitaker's 2014 biography, Cosby: His Life and Times. The book casts the comedy legend in a positive light, and does not touch on the accusations of rape lodged against him. Publisher Simon & Schuster removed the blurbs, with quotes from Billy Crystal and Mary Tyler Moore also being taken down. Now, Simon & Schuster vice president and executive director of publicity Cary Goldstein has confirmed to the Associated Press that they will let the book go out of print. No paperback edition will be published, and updates regarding Cosby's allegations of sexual assault will not be added to the hardcover or e-book editions. The book is still available for purchase, but only from third-party sellers. Sales figures for the book are low, suggesting that few people want to read a biography that glosses over the suspected crimes of its subject. The publishing world has spoken.
