She is the author of a best-selling collection of autobiographical essays. And now, in all her spare time, Lena Dunham is launching her own lifestyle site that has a proudly pro-woman mission statement. How soon can we sign up? Called Lenny and set to launch this fall, the e-mail newsletter is a joint venture between Dunham and Girls exec-producer Jenni Konner. Speaking with BuzzFeed, Dunham revealed that Lenny will draw "an army of like-minded intellectually curious women and the people who love them, who want to bring change but also want to know, like, where to buy the best tube top for summer that isn’t going to cost your entire paycheck.” The newsletter aims to be inclusive, smart, and fun, overseen by a band of cool, accomplished women, including editor-in-chief Jessica Grose, formerly of Jezebel. The goal is to create a space where different voices can connect and share ideas, both big and small. "We want people who have totally diverse interests,” Dunham added. “People who want to talk about radical politics but also want to talk about fashion and also want to talk about Rihanna, and also understand that all of those things can be happening at the same time." Eventually, Lenny will incorporate e-commerce supporting "independent female artists." Think "Rookie's Big Sister," said Dunham. But in the meantime, it's all about the discussions, debates, and — of course! — over-sharing. “With Lenny there’s no such thing as TMI, there’s no such thing as self-involved,” Dunham explained. “We’ll be allowed to show the ugly and complicated thought processes that go into forming your own brand of feminism, and your own identity, because it’s not all clean back here.” The beautiful messiness of life? Oh yeah, we can relate to that.
