7 For All Mankind Invents Flares For The “Average” Woman

It doesn't matter whether you’re a flared jean loyalist, or just want to dip into the '70s silhouette that is now back in style — everyone needs a trusty pair of flared jeans in their closet. However, unfortunately for most women, finding the perfect pair of jeans usually requires some major alterations. The industry standard for flared inseams runs 35 inches long, which means they're cut for women who stand at a model-esque 5 foot 9 inches tall. Meanwhile, the “petite” style of flared jeans are designed for customers 5 foot, 3 inches and shorter. This massive gap means that ironically, 90% of customers — average-height women, from 5 foot 4 inches, to 5 foot 5 inches tall — are left out entirely. But, here's some good news: WWD reported this morning that 7 For All Mankind is taking the headache out of flare denim-shopping with its brand new line, Tailorless. Made with a 32 and 33- inch inseam, these styles are marketed to women of average heights (and, modeled by women of average height, so it's easier to see how they'll really look). These modified, slightly shorter inseams aim to reduce or eliminate the need for tailoring altogether. Not only will this save the customer the hassle and expense of going to the tailor, the jeans will also keep the original, high-drama flared silhouette. The line will include three styles set to launch in August, and four additional holiday versions for October, with prices ranging from $189-$215. It's a solution so obvious, we wonder what took so long — but thankfully for women of a certain "average" height, we're glad to have the option.
