Why Are Kris Jenner & ABC Arguing About The Bruce Jenner Special?

Rex USA

Ed note: In his recent interview with Diane Sawyer,
Bruce Jenner said he identifies as a woman and wants to continue using
male pronouns. It's our policy to call everyone by the pronouns they
prefer, and so until Jenner tells us differently, we'll use "he" and "his" in our coverage.

Though Bruce Jenner’s family was an integral part of his already-iconic interview with ABC’s Diane Sawyer, one member was markedly missing from the mix: Kris Jenner. While former wives Chrystie Scott and Linda Thompson both issued supportive comments to the network, the reality star is claiming she was never contacted for comment — but ABC says that's not the case. The brouhaha boiled over when Perez Hilton sent a tweet wondering where Kris Jenner’s voice was in the chorus of support. “@PerezHilton fuck you Perez no one asked me to comment ...and I’m sitting with Bruce now watching this so so let’s keep it real...LOL…” she quickly fired back. A statement ABC shared with Refinery29 tells a different story. "ABC News sent an email to her publicity team more than once. They called and said no comment." In People, another statement arrived from Kris Jenner’s side, alleging that a message was sent to her office and she was asked for fact checking but that ultimately “Kris said she was unable to respond because she had not seen the special. She did not say, ‘No comment.’” One thing is for sure: It wouldn’t be a Kardashian affair without an element of drama in the mix, but — at least in the public eye — Bruce Jenner has received nothing but support and love from the famous clan, including from Kris Jenner herself. “Not only was I able to call him my husband for 25 years and father of my children, I am now able to call him my hero,” she wrote in a tweet following the broadcast. Whatever else is going on here, that’s a statement we’re inclined to believe.
