Cheer For This Brave Dog Learning to Walk On Prosthetics

It's not every day you see an adorable amputee Rottweiler walking down the street. And it's even rarer to see an amputee pup with four prosthetic legs. Brutus, a 2-year-old pooch from Loveland, Colorado, is only the second dog ever to have prosthetics on all four limbs, reports CNN.

For months, foster mom, Laura Aquilina, has been easing Brutus into prosthetics after all four of his paws developed frostbite. At the time, Brutus was still living with his breeder, who ended up mangling him after an attempted amputation, says Fox Denver.

“He’s able to walk in them. It’s not always pretty. We want to be able to give him a higher function, where he can run and play with other dogs, go on hikes,” Laura said.

Brutus is just one of 250 animals worldwide who receive prosthetics from OrthoPets of Denver each year. And Laura is determined to set him up for success: Next, Brutus is scheduled to start physical therapy in Fort Collins at CSU's Veterinary Teaching Hospital.

“If he ended up in a shelter they’d say he was unadoptable because he’s missing his feet. I think it’s good for people to know we can work with animals like this,” Laura added.
