Katie Holmes Doesn’t Want To Be Defined By Tom Cruise

It's been over two years since Katie Holmes filed for divorce from Tom Cruise and she has moved on from the actor. Nevertheless, the public continues to define Holmes by her relationship with Cruise. It doesn't matter that she had an acting career before meeting him. Or, that she's pursued multiple other endeavors — like fashion design — since. Katie Holmes and Tom Cruise are inextricably linked in the public eye.
Holmes really wants to end that association, though. "I don't want that moment in my life to define me, to be who I am," she tells People magazine in a new interview. "I don't want that to be what I'm known as. I was an actor before, an actor during and an actor now."
The cover, which features a defiant-looking Holmes, proclaims, "The private star finally opens up about starting over, life as a single mom, and finding love again." Inside, Holmes reveals her three rules for her life, post-split. "I don't have any fear now, I don't have a lot of rules for myself, and I don't take myself that seriously," she says.
In other words, Katie Holmes doesn't want to wait for her life to be over. She wants to know right now what will it be? Free of Oprah couch-jumping moments, for sure. (People)
