If you haven’t been watching The Knick — a drama set in a New York City hospital at the turn of the century — you need to start. If you have been watching, you’re probably as obsessed with Eve Hewson as we are. Having previously appeared in the cult film This Must Be the Place, Hewson’s current role is Lucy Elkins, a young nurse who works alongside surgeon John Thackery (Clive Owen) during this period of great medical innovation. (X-rays, for example, were just coming into use at the time.)
The Knick brings all the urgency of shows like ER, but with the added context of the social upheaval of the era. “It has everything," Hewson said. "The hospital area is so ready for drama, but then we also have a period piece that addresses, front on, racism and sexism, and it is also very gritty."
