J.Lo’s New Video, & Other Booty News

It's been a big week for butts — heck, it's been a big year. First, Miley Cyrus' thong leotards and Nicki Minaj's "Anaconda" video. Now J.Lo has come stake her claim, and "Booty" is the result. Did you expect anything less? Her derriere was once insured, after all.
Featuring remixed vocals from Iggy Azalea, the music video for "Booty" dropped yesterday. But, while some fans are celebrating it with cheers of "Get it, girl," the singer's Facebook page has also been flooded with comments complaining about the video's overtly sexual content.
"The oversexualization of women is getting old in videos," one self-proclaimed "big fan" wrote. "I think we are more than just a piece of ass and this video doesn't help."

Others have compared the steamy video to porn, and have chided the 45-year-old former Fly Girl for "cheapening herself."
"Honestly JLo you are such a talented woman why stoop this low?" another fan asked. "Sex sells and soon our daughters will only be seen as big booty sex props! This is degrading and very disappointing coming from such a fantastic woman. Ugh."
Do Lopez's fans have a point, or are they treating her differently because she happens to be in her 40s?
In other booty news, it seems The New York Times didn't learn anything from the tone-deaf Vogue article, and dedicated 1,000 words to the topic in Thursday's style section. The paper of record is a little late to the game.
As for us at Refinery, we like butts so much we're willing to expose our own.
