17 Comedians React To Joan Rivers’ Passing

It's been a difficult month for the comedy world. Today we lost Joan Rivers — just weeks after Robin Williams’s death, and only months after we said goodbye to Elaine Stritch. And, while it’s easy to be very sad about this passing, we should remember that Rivers herself wouldn’t want us to be. In her typical outrageous style, she once wrote, "Death doesn’t scare me. I just want to leave a legacy — something sexual would be good."
In her 2014 memoir, Diary of a Madwoman, Rivers was explicit that we shouldn't be sad about her death — except for Meryl Streep, whom the comedian demanded be "crying in five different accents." Rivers also asked that the public "make sure the guy who cuts the tombstone is a good speller," remember she spent many winters in Mexico — but that we "not list my next of kin as Poncho the Donkey.”
Rivers’ colleagues are, in a familiar ritual, taking to Twitter to remember her. Ahead, how the comedians she inspired are keeping her legacy alive today.
