Of Course The Anna Wintour Musical Is About The Kimye Cover

If imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, then Ryan Raftery might just be the ultimate Anna Wintour fanboy. And, come Monday night, the actor will honor his muse. In song. On stage. Ryan Raftery Is the Most Powerful Woman in Fashion is not just the name of his show, it's the name of his ode to the incomparable Vogue editrix.
Of course, this is far from the first time that Wintour has served as storytelling inspiration (a certain Anne Hathaway movie comes to mind), but as The Cut reports, this new tale was fueled by a very specific, and very recent, career highlight. Namely, #TheWorldsMostTalkedAboutCover.
Make no mistake: Raftery — who claims he ran out of performance material about his own life after years of autobiographical work — does not just seem to be writing a musical to draw more attention to the highly scrutinized couple. Instead, the action follows Anna's experience around the cover, including getting called into S.I. Newhouse's office for a meeting, fearing she may get fired, and singing a parody of "Let It Be" renamed "Let Her Die." Yes, that's referring Kim Kardashian. Fictitious? Entirely. But, entertaining? Well, that remains to be seen.
Ryan Raftery Is the Most Powerful Woman in Fashion will debut this Monday, August 11 in New York, with an encore performance in early September around Fashion Week. Wintour might consider attending, but we assume she has a few other front-row plans. (The Cut)
