It's as though the label would transform them into militant, man-bashing rabble-rousers affixed with permanent snarls, rather than a group of people who simply want a more level playing field.
There's at least one young actress, though, who isn't shying away from identifying herself as a feminist. In an interview with The New York Times, Halt and Catch Fire star Mackenzie Davis says that the "f word" shouldn't be a dirty one.

"The word has a bad rap as either unappealing or too confrontational," the 27-year-old told the paper. "But, I think the best thing is to just keep using it until it’s so normalized that no one can have a negative reaction anymore. Feminism is rooted in racial rights and gender rights, and all of those things intersect, and to say that that’s not something you can stand behind — it confuses me. I think it’s a really great word."
Davis' statement has already earned praise from Lena Dunham. The Girls star shared an Instagram pic of the quote and wrote, "I love Mackenzie Davis' simple, elegant explanation of why she's not afraid to call herself a feminist in today's New York Times."
