Kate Winslet has been doing the red-carpet thing for nearly two decades now. And, while we're not the math-whiz type, we're guessing that equals about 100,000 times she's had her makeup done for an event. That's a lot of time (and product), so it seems only natural that the Oscar winner has picked up a few tricks of the trade from Hollywood's best makeup artists. But, her go-to mascara tip, which she divulged to InStyle, actually blew our minds.
"Put mascara on the roots of your lashes with a flat-ended eyeliner brush," Winslet tells the magazine. "It makes the whites of the eyes seem whiter and keeps the lids from appearing too heavy." Basically, she's describing the easiest way to tightline your eyes. The typical techniques we hear range from wiggling our mascara at the root of our lashes (which has resulted in plenty of poked peepers) and using an eyeliner pencil to get the job done (again, ouch).
But, Winslet's pointer is actually the best of both worlds. Since mascaras tend to have an easier consistency to work with than liquid or gel liners, it glides onto the brush effortlessly. Plus, mascara is formulated to stick to the lashes better than an eyeliner, making the pigment less likely to slip. We're going to start employing this trick ASAP, but a serious shout-out to Winslet for doing the legwork here. Great to know all those red carpets were good for something. (InStyle)
