At Refinery29, our ethos of discovery means that we are always keeping our ear to the ground, hoping to unearth the very best new artist or an exciting collaboration from a musician we already know and love. That is to say, we take our music very seriously. We don't put our stamp of approval on anything that we wouldn't load directly into our own iPod (or Spotify, or other various audio devices) first. So, you can trust the excitement we're bubbling over with in sharing a new video for "Shut The Damn Door" from Lola Blanc. Here is what you gotta know:

Who? Lola Blanc, the German-born daughter of a beauty queen who happens to know ventriloquy.
How long has she been around? She's been makin' tunes since 2011.
What does she sound like? Blanc sounds like your favorite memory from high school, only with more tongue-in-cheek sass.
When should you listen to her? Honestly? All day, any day. She doesn't get old.
If this song was added to a soundtrack, it would play: Let's imagine "Shut The Damn Door" was around when the Jawbreaker soundtrack was released. It'd play during the introduction scene and elevate it to an even higher cult status.
There's nothing like a girl who finds her confidence in dressing up. There's something rather intimidating about 'em, and Lola Blanc is one badass chick. She's created an aesthetic entirely her own, and "Shut The Damn Door" highlights it perfectly. Candy colors and retro styling with an early aught flair come together to create the world of Blanc. "'Shut the Damn Door' is about a schoolgirl seducing her teacher," Blanc told us. "It's sexy but still kind of innocent. I always had a thing for older men (I kind of had a reputation for it!), but it was emotional as much as it was sexual. So, that's where it comes from. It's my answer to 'Don't Stand So Close to Me.' (I've never technically seduced a teacher, by the way.)"
