Vanity Fair & Harper's Bazaar Also Wanted A Kimye Cover

What Kanye West Anna Wintour wants, Anna Wintour gets. Needless to say, Vanity Fair and Harper's Bazaar had no chance of competing when the Vogue editor decided to feature Kimye on their April cover. But, that's not to say other magazines didn't try.
A Vanity Fair spokeswoman declined to comment about reports that they had pursued a cover shoot with the celebrity couple. As for rumors that Harper's Bazaar had spent months negotiating a cover with Kim Kardashian, executive editor of special projects Laura Brown said only this: "Kim and Kanye are the greatest example of conscious coupling. We wish them all the best.” Hmmm.
According to sources, Kardashian objected to the proposed Bazaar February cover shoot because she didn't want to work with photographer Terry Richardson again, and had "concerns" about his controversial reputation. She also reportedly took offense to editor-in-chief Glenda Bailey's alleged suggestion that she be shot up close so as not to show off her (then-pregnant) "overweight" frame. Ouch.
The Vanity Fair team, meanwhile, had mixed feelings about putting Kim and Kanye on the cover, citing concerns over potential backlash. They then nixed the idea once it became clear that Vogue had beat them to the punch. The rest, as they say, is newsstand history. (WWD)
