Tyra Banks Won’t Say “Plus Size”

Tyra Banks has a way with words. We can thank the supermodel for introducing such bons mots as "smize" and "drekitude" into the national lexicon, and our lives are brighter knowing how to do the "booty tooch" (don't judge). But, there's one phrase you won't hear coming out of her mouth: plus size.
The America's Next Top Model mogul and current Special K brand ambassador feels that the "plus-size" label has a negative meaning. "I don't like the label 'plus size,'" she said during her campaign to curb "fat talk." She continued, "On Top Model, we call it fiercely real. I don't want to use the term 'plus size,' because, to me, what the hell is that? It just doesn't have a positive connotation to it. I tend to not use it."
To her credit, Banks has hosted her own "Fiercely Real Model Search," and she's welcomed curvier contestants on ANTM. But, does being a certain size make someone more "real" than another woman? And, who is to say that being a "plus" is such a negative thing, and better swapped by another, albeit more feisty-sounding name? Food for thought... (Huffington Post Style)
