Okay, we admit it. We follow Joan Smalls on Instagram. And, we're really glad we do because otherwise, we wouldn't have seen this selfie of her Alvin Ailey Gala makeup with the caption, "Feeling a bit #emo tonight." Sure, her facial expression fits the description, but as for that makeup? Well, let's just say our makeup never looked this good during our own emo years (don't judge).
This look fits perfectly into our growing collection of weirdly beautiful, darkly ethereal makeup inspiration. Can we talk about that glossy black lipstick? Or would you rather chat about her two-tone silvery blue eyeliner? Or those brushed-out brows? There's some serious makeup mastery at work here.
Most of all, though, we're loving how this look isn't the either/or situation usually associated with bold lips or statement eyes. It's both, and we think she's pulling it off marvelously. Let us know what you think, though — are we the only ones planning on wearing this exact makeup tomorrow?
