At last night's Hollywood Film Awards, the stars really brought their beauty A-games. First, Sandra Bullock showed up looking all kinds of foxy. Then, our new favorite It Girl, Lupita Nyong'o, made her grand entrance and absolutely slayed it.
While her Monique Péan earrings and marigold J. Mendel dress caught our eye — anyone else having flashbacks to Michelle Williams' Vera Wang '06 Oscars ensemble? — it was her glam makeup look that really sealed the deal. To complement her bright dress, makeup artist Nick Barose paired an amber eye with a vibrant orange lip. We know, that seems like a whole lot of citrus, but the colors all worked in tandem to create a look that was red-carpet appropriate, yet still surprising.
Barose was attempting a subtle '70s, disco-Diana-Ross eye, so he applied Sisley Phyto-Ombré Glow eyeshadow in Amber to add drama, then filled in and exaggerated her brows by adding higher arches and lengthening the tails using Votre Vu Arch de Triumph Brow Definer.
As for the lips, Barose says he opted for that gorgeous orange (Tom Ford Beauty Wild Ginger, for those of you that are curious) because red felt too expected. "A mandarin-orange mouth is such a bold, glamorous color for lips that gives a similar knockout effect on the red carpet," he says. "It's like classic red lips except it's more exotic, unexpected, and quirkier than red." After seeing how amazing Nyong'o looks, consider us converts.
