Cher Explains What It Was Like To Hold Lady Gaga’s Meat Purse

One of our favourite things about watching awards ceremonies is that invariably awkward moment when the award giver and award recipient have a brief—and presumably unrehearsed—exchange on stage. So you've really got to feel for Cher at the 2010 MTV VMAs when she was tasked with awarding the Video of the Year statue to a meat-clad Lady Gaga.
But while Lady Gaga's meat dress caused no end of controversy, Cher was non-plussed by the whole thing. As a fellow lover of the sartorially bizarre, not to mention the fact that she was wearing a sheer body stocking that night, perhaps we shouldn't be too surprised.

The meat ensemble included a jaunty meat hat and a meat purse—which Gaga asked Cher to hold as she gave her acceptance speech. But the legendary diva was totally comfortable in her role as official meat purse holder. "I thought it was hysterical," she told
magazine. "I didn't realise what it was at first and then she said, 'Hold my meat purse', and I thought it was a new designer I didn't know. Then I looked down and thought, 'Woah this is strange'. It felt very weird, but the design was gorgeous and it was really a work of art."

It makes you love Cher just that little bit more, doesn't it?
