Lake Bell Interview - Home Decor Tips, Airbnb L.A.

You probably know funny gal Lake Bell for her hilarious appearances in movies like Whatever Happens In Vegas, No Strings Attached, and It's Complicated, scene-stealing roles in television shows like How To Make It In America, or may have even heard about her critically acclaimed feature-length writing, directing, and producing debut with In A World... But, today, we're shining the spotlight on one of Bell's potentially more-hidden talents: Home decor!

We chatted with the Renaissance lady at Airbnb's Hello L.A. event, where she hosted an opening for her pop-up in DTLA's Art District with her mom, interior designer Robin Bell. Filled with colorful bohemian accents and elements of Moroccan design, Bells's brainchild — which was executed by designer Justina Blakeney — is an eclectic oasis in the middle of an industrial city space. Featuring paintings from Bell's husband, artist Scott Campbell, the pop-up's surrounding street art also contributes to the overall aesthetic of the pod and its unexpected location.

"I love downtown," says Bell, "I feel like there’s something incredibly special and still raw, but also burgeoning about the art down here. You associate L.A with movies and filmmaking, but there is a really ripe art scene, and the food down here is incredible."

Tip #1: Make A Modern Space Less Severe By Adding A Bohemian Vibe
"I think there’s a funky juxtaposition of having something storied, bohemian, and comfortable in this very cool, corrugated steel structure."

Tip #2: Create A Unique Environment By Including Personal Flourishes
"My incredibly talented husband's art work makes it feel a little more emotionally in the family. These are from my dining room, and have never been shown. They're personal and very private to our home."

Tip #3: Make The Most Of A Small Space
"I thought it would be nice to have this sort of eclectic take on a little pod. So, envisioning this as a Moroccan space, there is something warm and embracing and romantic about it, and a bohemian take, which I think makes it really fun and relevant to the space."
