There are many kinds of scary movies. Movies about true-life horrors you wish were fiction, movies about ghosts, movies about deranged children and the spawn of Satan. But perhaps, the scariest movies of all are those rare ones that awaken the deep sense of existential dread that lies dormant in all of us. The moments focusing on the monolith in 2001: A Space Odyssey are a prime example (ack, that creepy sound/music!), and so far, it looks like Gravity is going to be another one.
Early reviews are saying the Alfonso Cuarón film starring George Clooney and Sandra Bullock is the closest any of us will ever come to the simultaneous awe and terror of being in space; some of those lucky enough to have seen the Oscar favorite say they had to sit down and breathe for a few minutes afterward, before being able to leave the theater. Considering that's exactly what happens to us every time we watch even the trailer, we're a little worried (and a lot excited) about seeing the full-length version in theaters October 4.
