It's almost here, folks. Robots can toss cinderblocks like they're baseballs, mimic even our most delicate hand gestures, and — through the many kinds of drones now flying our skies — surveil us 24 hours a day and/or rain down hellfire missiles on the heads of unsuspecting civilians. The great conflict of Man vs. Machine is nigh!
Luckily, that artist/tech designer Adam Harvey has developed the above piece — a silver-lined hoodie that is "reflective to heat and makes the wearer invisible to thermal imaging." Essentially, it would render the wearer semi-invisible to any death-dealing drone circling above.
However, these fetching accessories are not for sale, and Harvey tells the Guardian, "are primarily fashion items and art items. I'm not trying to make products for survivalists. I would like to introduce this idea to people: that surveillance is not bulletproof. That there are ways to interact with it and there are ways to aestheticise it." (Sadly, there are plenty of people in the world who actually could use an anti-drone garment in their daily lives). But aside from that, Harvey must know that when the robots do rise in vengeance to inflict mass destruction, he could easily become the next J.Crew with his android-sabotaging fashions.
