Magazine Cover Wars: SJP Sells Like A Champ, Bieber, Not So Much

For those of us who automatically renew our magazine subscriptions each year, or, most likely, get our dose of Vogue, Elle, and GQ via the web, there is one thing we can only get by swinging by our neighborhood newsstand: that "buy-me" appeal of the (normally celebrity) cover.
As it turns out, the most powerful face for making that money may just be that of Ms. Carrie Bradshaw, Sarah Jessica Parker. While 2011 saw quite a few fresh faces gracing mag covers, its seems that it was the favored household names that moved magazines: SJP, Heidi Klum, and "sexiest woman alive" Jennifer Aniston.
According to WWD and the Audit Bureau of Circulations, while Bieber fever has no cure in sight has not seemed to slow down, the teen sensation bombed as far as sales of his lipstick-stained cover of February's Vanity Fair go. Other cover blunders included Brooklyn Decker on Esquire, Michelle William's Marylin Monroe-channeling Vogue, and Justin Timberlake on both W and Esquire (poor JT).
Of course, Gaga made the list for her numerous 2011 covers that sold less than 2010's appearances. The reason, WWD suggests, may be her lack of theatricality (i.e. her au naturel appearance in October's Harper's Bazaar). Read even more of the year's hits and misses at the link. (WWD)
