You Need This To Transform Into Your Alter Ego — For One Night Only

Photographed by Aaron Richter.
Rihanna’s on. You've just opened the Champagne. It's one of those nights where you feel like something, the kind of thing that'll make for a really good story, might happen. So obviously, this isn't the time for your standard wing of black liner and tinted lip balm.
The good news is, transforming into a louder, sparklier, more colorful version of yourself for the night is actually way easier than it sounds — you just need the right products. Ahead, you'll find the coolest falsies, press-on nails, temporary tattoos, and more, all perfect for a quickie Cinderella moment.

What easier way to go from day to night than with glitter on your eyes? Go full-throttle and pack it on, or try makeup artists’ favorite trick: Layer neutral tones like gold, silver, rose gold, or copper on the lids over a creamy black shadow for a bold but not totally bananas look. Even more subtle? Place silver glitter over creamy taupe shadow with a bit of lavender in it, or rose gold over creamy champagne. Just keep the glitter sparse. It’s cooler when it looks undone, imperfect, and barely-there.

Picture it: You're standing in front of the polish wall at the nail salon and find yourself inexplicably drawn to a chunky glitter, or a bright red, or a black matte. But because it's so far from the sheer pink you always get, you convince yourself it'll be too much to have for a full week and reach for Ballet Slippers again. We've all been there, and we could all stand to be bolder. These reusable press-ons can be cut and filed like real nails (they look insanely real on, too) and last anywhere from one day to 18. (We love this kit in particular because the red undersides make our fingers feel like mini Louboutins.)

If you needed to look like a bronzed goddess like, yesterday, you're in luck. This unique gloss can be used over your existing tan for an instant high-shine finish or alone for a subtle boost of color, making it the perfect summer accessory. The pigment won't ever transfer to clothing, so you don't need to worry about ruining your whites. Plus, it even washes off at the end of the night, so it's ideal for those with commitment issues.

St. Tropez One Night Only Finishing Gloss, $25, available at Sephora.

There are tons of fake lashes out there, but take it from the pros — you’re going to get the best (and most customized) effect if you use tiny clumps of hairs rather than strips. With these tiny little varieties of clumps by Kiss, you get different lengths and densities to build the exact look you want, and they’re so much easier to glue on than those bulky strips that never seem to fit right. Our favorite drama look: Start at the outer corners with the longest clumps and work your way inward, with the shortest ones near your nose. (Getting the shakes? Just put your elbow on a table, outward from your body, and hold the lash clump with tweezers and as you glue it into place.) Wait a good 10 minutes for the glue to dry. Then top those fakes off with your gutsiest mascara (we love Marc Jacobs Omega Lash).

Just slide on your favorite lipstick shade, and then top it one of with Urban Decay’s virtual rainbow of glittery, iridescent topcoats. They're long-wearing and water-resistant, so your cocktail won't steal any sparkle from you, and they come in just about every shade of metallic you could ask for. (We love them with punk cat-eyes, in case you care.)

Not ready to make a commitment to a real tat? No problem. Milk Makeup’s got you covered with its simple-to-use ink pens that come in a variety of fun black designs (heart, smiley face, star, peace sign, and ying yang). Just press the pen where you want a tat and you’ve got a water-resistant design that won’t come off on your clothes. Oh, but it will wash off with an oil-based makeup remover, so you can return to your boring old self in time for work.

Milk Makeup Tattoo Stamp, $12, available at Milk Makeup.

Just because ink stamps are in doesn’t mean that flash tats are totally out. Fine, the traditional body ones kind of are, but if you haven't tried them in your hair, you're missing out. The only bummer? Your hair has to be stick-straight or the look doesn’t work.

Scunci Hair Tattoos, $4.99, available at Walgreens.
