This Is The Looking For Alaska Cast We’ve Waited 14 Years To See

The first teens to fall in love with John Green's Looking for Alaska might have kids of their own by now, but at last this 2005 novel is hitting our screens on Hulu this week. We've cast the book in our heads a million times over the past 14 years, as too has Josh Schwartz (probably), the O.C. and Gossip Girl creator who was supposed to make it a movie way back when. Is it possible that real actors will embody the characters we imagined so vividly?

Thank the streaming gods, Schwartz and partner Stephanie Savage are still onboard for this adaptation, so we have every confidence in their picks for the series. (Just as we're so far pretty pleased about their picks for Nancy Drew.)

The producers also managed to make a few tweaks for the better in this translation from book to movie. For one thing, Takumi was the only non-white character in Green's novel. Now, we have The Colonel played by Denny Love and religion professor Dr. Hyde played by Ron Cephas Jones. Since this is an eight-episode series, there's also a chance to add a little more depth to the characters we saw rather one-dimensionally in the story narrated by Miles "Pudge" Halter (Charlie Plummer).

It's good to know that Green seems pretty pleased with this crew, too.

"I'm so grateful that this story is still around, and so grateful to Stephanie Savage and Josh Schwartz who have been working on this adaptation for more than 10 years," Green said in one of his Vlog Brothers Youtube videos. "The cast is so lovely, as you're about to see. Their chemistry is super real."

Let's get to know them ourselves, shall we?

Kristine Froseth as Alaska Young

Who she plays: Alaska swings wildly between being a fun-loving rebellious teenager and a depressed girl trying to figure out the meaning of life and her place in it. Pudge finds her unknowable, but that might actually just be his problem, not hers.

Where we've seen her: The Norwegian and American actress played mean girl Veronica in last year's Sierra Burgess Is a Loser and the daughter of a cult founder in Apostle. She also had a very different teenage experience in The Society.

Charlie Plummer as Miles "Pudge" Halter

Who he plays: Pudge is a newcomer to Culver Creek Academy. He's studious and has always been unpopular in school back home, but he quickly finds his crew — and his first major crush — in boarding school.

Where we've seen him: An actor since childhood, Plummer appeared on Boardwalk Empire and has earned acclaim for starring in the indie films King Jack and Lean on Pete. He was also in All the Money in the World with Christopher Plummer, who is actually not related to him.

Denny Love as Chip "The Colonel" Martin

Who he plays: The Colonel is Pudge's brilliant roommate who is at Culver Creek on scholarship and hates all the school's rich kids.

Where we've seen him: Love has been on Empire, Lucifer, and L.A.'s Finest, and he's also a stand-up comedian.

Jay Lee as Takumi Hikohito

Who he plays: Takumi is best friends with the Colonel and Alaska, and a sick MC.

Where we've seen him: Lee starred on Netflix's American Vandal and was in the movie Bully.

Sofia Vassilieva as Lara Buterskaya

Who she plays: Lara a pretty girl from Romania who dates Pudge, even though he's clearly in love with Alaska.

Where we've seen her: You might know her as Eloise from the TV movies Eloise at the Plaza and Eloise at Christmastime. You may have seen her when she played Patricia Arquette's daughter for several seasons of Medium, or you may even remember her as Abigail Breslin's sister in My Sister's Keeper.

Jordan Connor as Kevin

Who he plays: Kevin's a jock and a "weekday warrior" — what the Culver Creek kids call the rich students who go home to their parents every weekend.

Where we've seen him: On the other side of the tracks as Sweet Pea on Riverdale, funny enough.

Uriah Shelton as Longwell

Who he plays: Longwell is another weekday warrior. In the book he's a minor character and the junior class president, but he'll help fill in a lot of blanks on the TV show.

Where we've seen him: He's been in The Glades, Girl Meets World, and a couple episodes of 13 Reasons Why.

Henry Zaga as Jake

Who he plays: Jake is Alaska's college-age, very cool musician boyfriend.

Where we've seen him: Zaga played Brad on 13 Reasons Why. He also put in a season on Teen Wolf and played a love interest on Netflix's now cancelled Trinkets.

Landry Bender as Sara

Who she plays: Sara is the Colonel's girlfriend, a weekend warrior who does not get along with him at all.

Where we've seen her: Bender was the star of the short-lived Disney Channel show Best Friends Whenever and recently played Rocki on Fuller House.

Timothy Simons as Mr. Starnes, a.k.a. The Eagle

Who he plays: The dean of students at Culver Creek likes to maintain order at the school, but he seems to have a soft side, particularly when it comes to Alaska and her friends.

Where we've seen him: Simons is most recognizable as Veep's towering butt of all jokes, Jonah Ryan. He was also in The Hustle (but not, sadly, Hustlers).

Ron Cephas Jones as Dr. Hyde

Who he plays: Dr. Hyde is an old-school religion teacher, and Pudge his sure he's a genius.

Where we've seen him: Most of us know Jones as the late great William on This Is Us, but he's also been on Luke Cage and Mr. Robot, and he's an accomplished theater actor as well.
