How This "It Girl" Keeps Her Skin Glowing After Weeks Of Traveling

German blogger Caroline Daur started posting photos of her outfits to social media while she was still in college. Pretty standard in our #ootd culture, right? Except that, just a few years later, she amassed over a million followers on Instagram and racked up a résumé that reads more like a top model's than a homegrown Instagram star's.

Since being discovered, the 22-year-old has covered Vogue Japan, L'officiel Germany, and Grazia Italy; she's starred in a campaign for Dior and designed her own signature lipstick with MAC as well as a trucker jacket for Levi's; and she's walked in six Dolce & Gabbana runway shows and even opened Rebecca Minkoff's show during last fall's NYFW.

Her beauty routine, on the other hand, is less intimidating — in the best way possible. Daur says she always does her own makeup when she's not working and has a few tricks up her sleeve for getting red carpet ready in 10 minutes or less.

Daur invited us along on her most recent trip to the states (she was in Miami for Art Basel last month) to show us how she did five looks in five days — plus all the products to copy them yourself.

Daur had to put her bachelor thesis on hold to explore her newfound modeling career, but she says the decision was worth it. She wants to write a book and just started taking acting classes in L.A. — but the majority of the time she finds herself on a plane. Her secret for packing? Just take it all (in a checked bag).

"I'm an over-packer," she says. "I always just bring everything with me: a few foundations, three concealers — too much."
One thing she never packs? Mascara. "I have fake lashes," she says, noting that German girls are loving extensions right now. "If you come to Hamburg, you'll see that everyone is asking about them. I am very into natural beauty, but my lashes are a dream: I can wake up and without even putting makeup on, feel comfortable. They're the best thing on earth."
Daur created a lipstick with MAC last year. Sadly, it wasn't available stateside — but that's changing with her next collab. "They support me so much," she says, "The next release will be available in the U.S., but I cannot say too much about it yet."

She also loves the brand's base products, and likes to alternate between its Waterweight Foundation and Mineralize Skinfinish.
"My beauty routine is natural and quick," Daur says. "I know what I like and what looks good on me: bronzer and highlighter. But I hate blush because I feel like I look like I just came out of the gym."

Her current favorites? The Becca highlighter is the best for me and I love the Hoola bronzer from Benefit," she says. "And Marc Jacobs has this sort of highlighter; it's a shiny cream and you look like you're glowing — it's so good."

As for application? "I put highlighter above my cheeks, on my nose, and a little bit above my lips [on the Cupid's bow]," she explains. "My mom is always like, 'What are you doing? You have something here!' and I'm like, 'Mom, it has to be there!'"
"This is my go-to hairstyle because it's the fastest and coolest hairstyle for me and it only takes a few minutes!" Daur says."I separate my hair in the middle then add a lot of hairspray and smooth it into a low bun — it's literally two minutes. Then you can pop on a red lipstick and you're done in 10. People I work with will ask me if I need a stylist and I say, 'no, I just need 10 minutes!'"
"I like to try a lot of new hair products," Daur says. "I love Aveda and I like things that are oily because my hair is very frizzy. I try not to wash my hair too often: The best is after two or three days. I am very easy with my hair — I just do highlights [in the salon] and I normally just wear it in a ponytail."

You'll find Aveda's Color Conserve line and KMS' Maximum Hold Hair Stay hairspray in her checked bag.
For Miami, Daur packed no fewer than 10 pairs of shoes — including two pairs of Chanel slides.
Daur credits her beauty approach to her upbringing in Hamburg. "I don't know if I speak for everyone, but it's all about being natural, easy, and casual," she says. "German women are all about easy [styles and looks] that are very efficient. I like to look like I have makeup on, but I want to look fresh and healthy, too."
"I don't use too much on my skin," Daur says. "When it comes to cream, I love La Mer. My mom has used La Mer for 15 years and looks so good." Here, her go-to Marc Jacobs Dew Drops and Primer, D&G's Light Blue fragrance, and skin-care from German derm, Dr. Barbara Sturm.
Daur wears her custom MAC lipstick shade and statement frames for an appearance in Miami. (Bonus points if you match your shades to your BFF, like she did with her friend and fellow fashion star Cordell C. Broadus.)
At the end of the trip, Daur pulled her hair into her signature ponytail and threw on a big comfy sweater for her long flight back to Germany.
